Your data, your choice

Privacy policy

Your practice stays on your device

Somewhere by Morning works without an account. Journeys, interval times, landings, reflections, imported books, custom text, lyrics, and playlists are stored on your device. We do not upload that material to our analytics service. Device backups may include your local data, depending on your settings.

Optional usage analytics

If you choose Share usage data, we collect feature events such as app activity, creating a journey, revealing a landing, and importing a source. Reports include a random installation identifier, the UTC calendar day, app version, platform, and limited categories such as file format or success/failure. This is pseudonymous data: it can link activity from the same installation, but does not include your name, email, imported content, book or song titles, reflections, exact interval times, location, advertising identifier, or Spotify account identifiers. We use it to understand adoption, return visits, and reliability. Staff see aggregate dashboard results. We do not use it for advertising or sell it.

Your analytics choice

Usage analytics is off until you choose to share. You can use every feature without sharing and change your choice in Settings. Turning sharing off stops new collection, clears queued events, and requests deletion of that installation’s stored analytics. If offline, the deletion request is retried when the app is opened with a connection. Erase all data also turns sharing off and requests analytics deletion. Uninstalling the app does not itself send a deletion request.

Retention and service operation

Cloudflare hosts our analytics service. Live reports cover the most recent 30 UTC calendar days, with expired events removed hourly. Unsent reports on your device expire after 7 days. A non-reversible identifier is retained for 35 UTC calendar days, including the day of a deletion request, to reject delayed uploads. Expired identifiers are removed hourly. The dashboard is calculated from retained events; deleting those events updates its totals. Cloudflare’s recovery backups can retain removed data for up to 30 additional days; those copies are not used for routine analytics. Our analytics application does not save IP addresses or request bodies in access logs. Hosting and network providers necessarily process connection information to deliver and protect the service. Support emails remain in the support mailbox until the request is resolved and for up to 90 days afterward, unless a longer period is needed to meet a legal obligation.

Spotify and automatic lyrics

Connecting Spotify is optional and uses Spotify’s sign-in service. Credentials are stored in your device’s Keychain. Spotify receives requests needed to load the music you choose, find playback devices, and play a moment when you request it. If automatic lyric lookup is enabled, LRCLIB receives track metadata such as title, artist, album, and duration to look for timed lyrics. These providers also receive connection information and apply their own privacy policies. Imported music and lyric data are stored locally. You can turn off automatic lookup and disconnect Spotify in the app. Disconnecting removes Spotify-derived sources and their associated local history; copies you exported and older device backups remain outside the app’s control.

Exports, links, and feedback

Exporting or sharing sends only what you choose through the destination you select. JSON exports include personal history and the full contents of imported sources. Book-provider links open external websites; Somewhere by Morning does not connect to Kindle, Kobo, Google Play Books, or Apple Books accounts. TestFlight and Apple may collect beta diagnostics and feedback under their own terms. If you email support, we receive your message, address, and any attachments you choose to send. Please avoid attaching private books, lyrics, or reflections unless necessary.

Contact and changes

For support, privacy questions, or deletion requests, email support@somewherebymorning.com. You can remove local data in Settings and control usage sharing there. We will update this notice when our practices change and request a new choice before materially expanding optional analytics.
